Clinical chemistry

Coupled with the interpretive skills of our laboratory specialists and consultants, we provide clinically impactful tests for improved laboratory diagnosis, prognosis and monitoring. Clinical Chemistry unit provides a broad array of routine and specialized clinical laboratory testing services on blood, urine, and other body fluids to assess the function of different organs such as liver, kidney, heart and pancreas. The laboratories maintain a comprehensive selection of routine, high-volume automated clinical biochemistry tests. Additional specialized testing includes: therapeutic drug monitoring, toxicological testing, trace metals analysis and kidney stone analysis.

Genetics

Out of the belief of our top management to the emerging role of genetic testing, our Genetic department has been the scope of fast development in the past years. Applications of our genetic tests span medical disciplines including: newborn screening for highly penetrant disorders; diagnostic and carrier testing for inherited disorders; predictive and pre-symptomatic testing for adult onset and complex disorders; assays to guide personalized therapy in drug dosage, selection and response.

ElBordiny Labs is the only lab in Alexandria performing preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) which is used for diagnosis of genetic diseases in early embryos prior to implantation and pregnancy. This technology is applied in the field of assisted reproduction for aneuploidy screening and diagnosis of unbalanced inheritance of chromosome abnormalities, such as translocations or inversions

Hematology

Hematopathology is involved in the analysis of the cellular elements of blood, bone marrow, and body fluids with a focus on neoplastic and non-neoplastic hematologic disorders. In addition to high-volume automated hematology laboratory tests, Elbordiny labs perform a wide variety of specialized studies such as hemoglobin variant analysis and red cell membrane disorders.

Elbordiny labs offer a full range of expert consultative services for bone marrow evaluation and interpretation. Full morphologic interpretation of bone marrow specimens by eminent staff hematopathologist is available. Morphologic findings are integrated with the results of special procedures such as immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, molecular studies, and cytogenetic analysis to arrive at a final interpretation.

Immunoassay

In our immunoassay covers wide range of tests including;

Hormones affect most aspects of life; physical, mental and sexual. Many health problems are explained by hormonal imbalance. In our labs we offer complete hormonal panel for the entire endocrinal axes; pituitary, thyroid, adrenal, gonadal, besides the infertility panel in both males and females, thyroid profile, sex hormones, growth hormones and insulin
Tumor Markers for several body organs used in conjunction with other tests for diagnostics, monitoring the success of a current therapy, evaluate the need for surgical intervention, or assess the development of recurrence
Therapeutic drug monitoring enables the assessment of the efficiency and safety of a particular medicine in a velocity of clinical settings.  Also TDM is used for measuring digoxin, anti-epileptic drugs and   immunosuppressant drugs (such as cyclosporine and tacrolimus).
Vitamins and folic acid
Seminal fluid analysis; both manual and computerized (CASA) is a pivotal test performed in Elbordiny labs. By complying with the latest WHO guidelines for processing, analyzing and reporting results, we present reliable data to support clinical decisions.

Immunology

Immunopathology comprises testing that focuses on the function of the immune system, both normal and pathological. Immune function can be assessed by measurement of immunoglobulin levels and subtyping analysis. Specialized testing is also available to evaluate cellular immune function. The immunopathology test menu also includes infectious disease serologies such as rubella, hepatitis, fungal, syphilis and allergy.

Microbiology

We detect a wide range of pathogens, including viruses, bacteria and parasites. Microbiology Unit offers susceptibility testing of infectious agents which has direct impact on treatment decision

Molecular biology

Molecular biology is, at present, one of the fastest moving departments in El-Bordiny labs with a combination of the most updated instruments and experienced laboratory staff. It provides detection of most common viral and bacterial pathogens such as Hepatitis C virus (HCV), Hepatitis B virus (HBV), Cytomegalovirus (CMV) and mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB).

Furthermore, the Molecular Biology unit offers detection of genetic polymorphisms in a wide array of hematological diseases to aid physicians in diagnosis, and prognosis. Such diseases include but are not limited to; Thalassemia (Alpha & Beta), Sickle cell anemia (HbS), Familial Mediterranean fever, hypercoagulable status (by: Factor V lieden, prothrombin gene and MTHFR gene mutations). Elbordiny Labs is the principle lab providing genetic analysis of malignant diseases whether hematological such as Leukemias, Lymphomas, and plasma cell myeloma ( by : BCR-ABL, JAK 2 mutation, and PML-RARA) or non-hematological such as cancer colon and cancer lung (by: KRAS, NRAS, EGFR, etc ….).

Parasitology

Our Parasitology unit involves testing for various stages of parasites using upated technology. Parasitology tests encompass analysis of urine and stool samples. Also we perform direct diagnosis of blood parasites such as malaria, filaria and leishmania in blood films.
